Centroid Set
This set includes three distinct triangles and a quadrilateral made from precision LASER cut 1/4 inch thick plastic. The set is designed to explore two methods of finding the centroid and is intended for use with standard compass and straightedge methods as well as Geometer Sketchpad. The first method uses the pedestal to find the balance point. The balance point is the CENTROID assuming uniform thickness and density of the material. The second method uses the intersection of two vertical lines found by suspending the respective pieces from the post on the bent plastic frame (frame includes an inscribed vertical line). The intersection occurs at the CENTROID.
